Did the Healing Take?

Many of you are far more familiar with A Course in Miracles (ACIM) than I am, and so I’m sure you understand just how amazed I am by this text, this being my first time to delve into it. I’ve been reading the main text, applying the daily lessons, and also looking at the Manual for Teachers. Today I read something that reminded me so much of the things I’ve heard Dr. Pearl, the founder of The Reconnection, say in regards to just what we do during a session.

This is from the 6th section of the Manual, titled “Is Healing Certain?” which states: “No teacher of God should feel disappointed if he has offered healing and it does not appear to have been received. It is not up to him to judge when his gift should be accepted. Let him be certain it has been received and trust that it will be accepted when it is recognized as a blessing and not a curse.”

In the next section of the Manual titled “Should Healing be Repeated?” there’s this quote: “One of the most difficult temptations to recognize is that to doubt a healing because of the appearance of continuing symptoms is a mistake in the form of lack of trust…The real basis for doubt about the outcome of any problem that has been given to God’s Teacher for resolution is always self-doubt.”

Dr. Pearl says that our main goal during a Reconnective Healing session is to get ourselves out of the way, which is basically saying the same thing as the second quote above. And I can’t count how many times he’s talked about not being concerned with the outcome—to trust that what is happening really is the perfect thing for the client, and to keep our own agenda out of it.

Truly, it’s a leap of faith to fully accept that healing takes place irrespective of what I think I may be doing or offering, and that the responsibility for outcome is not mine, at least to some degree (after all, I’ve made this my vocation!). Yet I know from personal experience that outcomes are out of my control, and in my clearer moments, I’m very grateful for that! As opportunity after opportunity arises for me to receive my own miracles that are part of being connected to Source, I know that we each have our unique relationship to God, and you and He can be trusted to work out the details.
